Inter Miami has taken home the MICFootball Punta Cana championship trophy in the U15 category, in its first edition in the Dominican Republic.
In the most exciting final of the five divisions contested, the winner had to be decided on the penalty spot. At the end of 50 minutes, neither Inter Miami nor Club de Fútbol América had been able to break the deadlock. Eight penalties were needed to decide the champion. The American team scored three of its four, while América missed three, giving its rival the victory.
The team and fans celebrated wildly on the pitch after the match ended. In six matches played from last Wednesday to this Saturday, Inter Miami has not conceded a goal nor lost a single match. This placed them first in their group (with wins against Proyecto JDB, Albion Elite White, and Club Real Deportivo RD). In the playoffs, they defeated Nación FC (1-0 in the quarterfinals) and College Cup (2-0 in the semifinals).
The U15 category closed with a victory for Inter Miami in the final phase and also for Benin FF in the consolation round. In the final, the African team defeated SD Colonial Blue 3-1.
